Skills ExtraThe Concord College SKILLS EXTRA PROGRAMME is an opportunity for students to take full part in a Summer School course but at the same time improve their skills in a particular activity through expert tuition.

GOLF - Students choosing the golf programme receive expert tuition from qualified coaches for three 1.5 hour sessions per week.
TENNIS - Students choosing the tennis programme receive three lessons of 1.5 hours per week.
HORSE RIDING - Students choosing the Horse Riding programme are transported to a local riding school for three 1.5 hour lessons each week.

 

Skills ExtraA student who chooses a SKILLS EXTRA PROGRAMME receives the same number of hours classroom teaching as other students - 20 hours per week and an additional 4.5 hours per week of specialist tuition from qualified coaches. Outside these hours, the student is free to participate fully in all aspects of the course and goes on all the full and half day excursions.

 

 

As places on Skills Extra programmes are strictly limited, early booking is advisable.

Skills Extra

The Concord ‘Skills Extra’ programmes are designed for the student who wishes to develop in a particular activity through expert tuition WITHOUT restricting his/her involvement in other aspects of the course.

How the Programmes Work

For a ‘Skills Extra’ programme a supplement is payable, as indicated on the booking form attached. A student choosing a ‘Skills Extra’ programme receives the same Summer Course Tuition as other students on the course (20 hours per week). IN ADDITION he/she receives 4.5 hours of expert tuition per week in the chosen extra skill during recreation time. Outside this tuition time, the student is free to participate fully in all aspects of the general Summer Course programme, and goes on all the full and half-day excursions.

Which Skills are Available

GOLF : TENNIS : HORSE-RIDING

Golf : Students choosing the golf programme receive expert tuition from qualified coaches. Teaching is at a level appropriate to the ability of the individual student. On most weeks, three lessons of 1.5 hours are given. However, in the latter stages of a course, students may be given the opportunity to put their skills to the test on one of Shropshire’s fine courses. Golf clubs can be provided at no extra charge if required.

Tennis: Students choosing the tennis programme receive three lessons of 1.5 hours each week. Instruction is provided by qualified coaches in small groups. Tennis rackets can be provided at no extra charge if required.

Horse-riding: Students choosing the horse-riding programme are transported to a local riding school for three 1.5 hour lessons each week. The programme covers flatwork, hacking/jumping and stable management. For hacking/jumping students are divided into groups according to ability levels. Hard hats are provided. Students choosing this option should bring appropriate footwear.

HOW TO BOOK A SKILLS EXTRA PROGRAMME

To reserve a place, indicate on the summer course application form. As places on programmes are strictly limited, early booking is advisable.

The total hours of tuition, within the Skills Extra programme, are the same whether the student attends a course commencing on 2 July or 30 July 2006.
